The Redondo Beach Esplanade streetscape project represents a one mile stretch of scenic overlook with public beach access enjoyed by pedestrians, bicycle riders and the adjacent residential neighborhood. The project scope provided traffic calming “bulbout” elements at five intersections, resurfacing and restriping for bikeways and on-street parking, a widening of the existing bluff top sidewalk featuring 50,000 SF of unit pavers, enhanced blufftop seating, site furniture, and a Civic Art program. Alluvial Design Studios was the landscape architectural designer for the project as part of an engineering team headed by Harris and Associates. This $3 M project was completed in 2011, and was praised by civic leaders and the community for its timeless design and sensitivity to views.
