The 14 hectare (35 acre) Yuanyang Island Resort Master Plan is comprised of three basic components: a Five-Star Resort Spa with an amphitheater, which can also be utilized for public performances; an Entertainment Island with two restaurants (one floating), a cafe, tea house, and night club; and a Private Island with ‘for sale’ luxury villas. The sub-tropical resort is located off the eastern seaboard of Hainan Island in the South China Sea and is adjacent to the Boao International Conference Center. Construction of the island began in 2003.
This master site plan, including waterway layout and planning of all buildings and facilities, was prepared on-site in China by BGB, Inc. principal Paul Bettenhausen.
